Nothing illuminates the vulnerability of life quite like the profound power displayed by Mother Nature in the great plains.

When watching storms with such great destructive potential move across the landscape, I often find myself wondering about all the living creatures in the storms path. I think about the family in their farmhouse winding down from a long days work, and wonder if they have an adequate storm shelter. I think about the cattle and horses that are fenced in, the rabbits and coyotes, even the birds - and I wonder if they know of the danger that threatens.

Grass bends under strong inflow winds, giving the storm life, as if taking a breath. A wall cloud lowers under a darkened base, foreshadowing the intentions of this supercell.

...I hope the humans and critters found shelter.
