Every once in a while I experience a storm that completely overwhelms my senses.
I was tracking a group of severe thunderstorms on radar one evening while watching t.v. when the air was abruptly set aglow in the most fantastic yellow/orange tones. Standing in my front yard under an old oak tree, I was able to capture only a small piece of the surreal scene when this cell broke away from the group.
I think what made this storm different and inspired this piece was just how impossible this storm seemed. I was struck with a feeling of unease - as if my perceptions of reality itself were suddenly incorrect. This storm was showing me a glimpse behind the curtain; A window into a world not often seen or experienced.
This is why I can't stop looking up.
